Mahoney Engineering successfully secured full entitlements from the City of Austin Department of Aviation and Development Services for the expansion of Million Air Austin, enabling the addition of nearly 120,000 square feet of hangar space, over 15,000 square feet of office space, expanded departure lounges, and 214 new parking spaces. The project presented complex challenges, including heritage tree preservation, wetlands protection, aircraft circulation constraints, and navigating conflicts between legacy airport regulations and current city development requirements. To maximize the site's functionality, the team relocated an existing regional detention pond, recovering valuable aircraft-use space and significantly increasing the developable area. Through strategic coordination with regulatory agencies and innovative site planning, the project successfully added approximately 12 acres of aircraft parking pavement while supporting the construction of new hangars, passenger amenities, and operational facilities for private aviation.
