Ledge Mountain
An 18-foot retaining wall and driveway on a cliff-face lot with no prior vehicular access, secured through an environmental variance and a Vested Rights Petition to 1977 development standards.
Located on Ledge Mountain Drive in northwest Austin, this property previously had no vehicular access and limited accessibility overall. Mahoney Engineering led coordination efforts of civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering in order to design an 18-foot retaining wall and a driveway. Given the amount of cut and fill required to design the driveway due to the nature of the property's cliff face, Mahoney Engineering was granted an environmental variance. Additionally, due to the house originally being permitted in 1977, Mahoney Engineering was able to submit a Vested Rights Petition to be able to adhere to the development guidelines that were in place in 1977, as opposed to the environmental regulations that are in place today.
